Liverpool FC Women 0-2 Arsenal: Miedema and Foord secure victory

Miedema scores on Arsenal return

Foord doubles lead to secure win

Arsenal Women extended their lead at the top of the FA Women's Super League with a 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Prenton Park on Sunday.

Vivianne Miedema, making her first start since returning from a long-term knee injury, opened the scoring in the 60th minute with a close-range finish.

Substitute Caitlin Foord doubled Arsenal's lead nine minutes later with a powerful strike from inside the area.

The result means Arsenal now have a three-point lead over Manchester United at the top of the table, while Liverpool remain in eighth place.

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall was pleased with his team's performance, particularly in the second half.

"I thought we were really good in the second half," he said. "We created a lot of chances and could have scored more goals.

"It was great to see Vivianne back on the scoresheet. She's a world-class player and she showed her quality today."

Liverpool manager Matt Beard was disappointed with his team's display, but praised Arsenal's quality.

"We didn't play well enough today," he said. "Arsenal are a very good team and they showed their quality.

"We need to improve our performance levels if we want to challenge the top teams in the league."
