FAA: New approach altitudes for FIG 5-4-5
Pilots within the left or right-base areas expected to maintain a minimum altitude
Descent after crossing the 17 NM arc
In FIG 5-4-5, pilots within the left or right-base areas are expected to maintain a minimum altitude of 6000 feet until within 17 NM of the associated IAF. After crossing the 17 NM arc, descent is permitted.
This change is effective immediately and is intended to improve safety by reducing the risk of controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) accidents.
Pilots are advised to review the new procedures carefully before flying in the FIG 5-4-5 area.
