Former NFL Player Jacoby Jones Dies at 40
Ravens mourn the loss of 2012 Super Bowl hero
Jones played nine seasons in the NFL
Former NFL wide receiver Jacoby Jones, who played with the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens and who helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII, has died. He was 40.
The Ravens announced Jones' death in a statement Sunday. No cause of death was given.
"Jacoby Jones was a beloved member of our Ravens family and we are deeply saddened by his passing," the Ravens said. "He was a tremendous player and a great teammate, and he will be deeply missed."
Jones played nine seasons in the NFL, catching 303 passes for 4,447 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also returned 380 punts for 4,116 yards and five touchdowns, and 147 kickoffs for 3,398 yards and one touchdown.
Jones was a key contributor to the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII victory over the San Francisco 49ers. He caught a 56-yard touchdown pass from Joe Flacco in the first quarter, and he returned a kickoff 108 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. His 108-yard kickoff return is the longest in Super Bowl history.
Jones was a Pro Bowl selection in 2012. He retired from the NFL after the 2015 season.
