Diamondbacks Take Series Opener Against Giants

The Diamondbacks took the first game of their three-game series against the Giants on Friday night, winning 5-2. Merrill Kelly pitched six strong innings for the Diamondbacks, allowing just two runs on four hits and striking out eight batters.

The Diamondbacks' offense was led by Ketel Marte, who went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Pavin Smith also had a big night, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Giants' Offense Struggles Against Kelly

The Giants' offense struggled to get anything going against Kelly. The only runs they scored came on a solo home run by Brandon Belt in the first inning and an RBI single by Austin Slater in the sixth inning.

The Giants had a chance to tie the game in the ninth inning, but Wilmer Flores grounded out to end the game.

Diamondbacks' Bullpen Shuts Down Giants

The Diamondbacks' bullpen turned in a strong performance, shutting down the Giants' offense over the final three innings.

Joe Mantiply pitched a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two batters. Ian Kennedy pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Mark Melancon closed out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
